Welcome to the Salt Lake SHRM Student Chapter Web Page

The SLSHRM Student Chapter is dedicated to assisting students interest in the field of Human Resources with professional development during their education.

One of the most important things to do as a student is get involved. One way for students to get involved is to assist at monthly luncheons, seminars and other SLSHRM events. If you are interested in getting more involved, please contact Dana Sowby, Director of Student Programs (SLSHRM) at (801) 585-5061.

SLSHRM Mentor Program
The Salt Lake Society for Human Resource Management would like to invite our professional members to become a mentor for our new student members. The program is designed to offer a structured setting to develop beneficial one-on-one relationships between HR professionals (mentors) and HR students or those new to the HR profession (protégés).

This program will benefit both the mentor and the student. Click here to download the mentoring program guide.

Here are a few ways you can mentor a student member:

  • Invite the student to sit with you at the monthly luncheons
  • Be willing and available to answer questions about the field
  • Help the student network by introducing them to other members and colleagues
  • Provide advice on ways to gain experience and break into the field
  • Provide information on industry resources
  • Assist the student with an internship in your department/company if the need arises

STUDENT MEMBERSHIP
The SLSHRM Student Chapter is dedicated to assisting students interest in the field of Human Resources with professional development during their education.

The benefits of joining as a student member are:

  • reduced membership cost
  • access to current information and changes in HRM trends and employment law
  • the opportunity to network with professionals in the field during luncheons
  • chapter sponsored seminars at reduced fees
  • access to employment opportunities


To join SLSHRM as a Student Member, the following criteria must be met:

  • must be enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours in a degree seeking program (certificate programs are not eligible)
  • your coursework, taken or planned demonstrates an interest In Human Resource Management

We also recommend you seek out more student information available on the National SHRM Website www.shrm.org/students and consider attending one of the certification preparation courses.
